The Author of the Orples Trilogy, beginning with 'How Orples Came To Be'. Now I am an orplekeeper, among other things. In addition to my children's books, I have the first two of three books, geared more toward an adult audience. That series revolves and close family ties in an equestrian setting. It is a family Saga with some colorful language.
I used to be a drafts-person/truss designer and still take on a set of plans here and there.
Izzadora has a fabulous blog, with fabulous places to visit. Just ask the Orples. In the post she did, that my post is based on today, she was photographing the sculpture, Sagg Portal #6, in Sarasota Bay In Sarasota, Florida. Well, thanks to Izzy, Olivia and Oscar are awestruck by the sculpture in the park. It is a good thing Oscar remembered to bring his cameratoday. That way they can get plenty of photos of their own.
It seems when we visit Uncle Spike Adventures, we find ourselves exploring the terrain on the other side of the world (for the Orples and me). Oscars learned his lesson the last time, he and Olivia were exploring ruins when we visited with Madhu. Remember, he’d forgotten is binoculars? Well, this time around, Oscar remembered to bring a camera, so he and Olivia can take some selfies in these magnificent ruins.
Since I can’t cyber-transport myself like the Orples can do, I may as well cruise through the neighborhoodand re-visit some of our past adventures. Please feel free to join me.
Those globe hopping Orples have hopped over onto Dolly’s blog, where we can find them playing games in Dolly’s world. They saw her tee-shirts hanging around in need of paint and personalization. Now Oscar and Olivia are pestering me to hurry up and open our shop so Dolly can buy the supplies she needs to do the job.
I think I’ll work on gathering inventory for the various departments in our new shop while the silly little Orples play with Dolly’s friends. Amazon has a wonderful selection of fabric paints and markers, as you shall soon see. Then we can stroll through our neighborhood, to see what has been going on in Orpleland.
I’ve had to shift gears lately, in an effort to launch our new toy and gift shop …. even Orples have to work, you know. The idea is for me to take the time to hand select some sensible, and in some cases, classic toys, books, and gifts for the children on your gift list. Today’s post is but a brief preview of what is to come, and at this point, we are in the set-up process, thus still subject to change. We are still adding categories, and trying to arrange our inventory in an effort to save you shopping time when the time comes.
I hope when we do open our doors, you will think of us when you seek out gifts for the wee ones in your life.
Ren wrote a fascinating article on Madrid, Spain. Renxkyoko’s space is full of wonderful posts on Ren’s world travels. In the particular article the Orples are visiting today, she gives a brief insight into the relationship between Spain and the Philippines. I found her article extremely interesting, and her photographs a joy to observe since I have never had the good fortune to travel abroad.
The Orples, being Orples are not hindered by the physical world, so they will have to meet Ren, leaving me behind to visit our neighbors. Out of curiosity, I thought I’d run over to Amazon to find a globe to include in the shop the Orples and I are setting up. I found a talking globe. Can you believe it? Today’s toys are unbelievable when compared to the toys I had as a kid. The globe I found will be sold on my shop once I’m finished setting it up. Or, if you’re on the market for globes, you can get one now. Either way, I think I might need a globe or a map or something so I can keep track of where my little Orples are at any given point in time .
Olivia, Oscar, and I were checking out some of our fellow blogger’s blogs, and came across this little challenge from one in particular. We have chosen to answer the # 3 Challenge on the list: Include all of these elements into a scene: a bucket, a rainbow, curiosity, and a TV remote control. If you want to check out the other options listed, and/or want to work up you own little post, then please follow the link to ‘Writing Prompts‘ blog and go for it!.
Knowing how Oscar gets when he is around water, they will probably be playing with that silly remote for the rest of the day. It appears it is a good time to visit the neighbors to see what we may have missed lately.
The skies are sunny in Virginia, but it is too cold for the beach so the Orples are visiting Sylvia in sunny Southern Florida today. It appears it is just anotherdayinparadise as the Orples are reminded of their sleeping arrangements in their Treasure Tree … that is another story, book 2 of the Orples Trilogy covers the story of how the Orples turned their orange tree into ‘The Treasure Tree‘, if the event you didn’t already know.
Some dude was peacefully taking a nap when the Orples arrived and now he is buried under Olivia. I simply don’t understand how those adventuresome little Orples can get into so much trouble without even trying. Let me go gather the neighborsto see if we can help pull Olivia off of that poor guy getting smashed in the hammock.
Maria not only has a tropicalflowerzone, she has beautiful butterflies on her blog too. The Orples seem to have made a new friend—Ms. Paper Kite Butterfly. Speaking of butterflies; Amazon has some really cool Butterfly Sticker Booksavailable if you love butterflies as much as we do, and stickers are a fun addition to snail mail letters & packages, scrapbook entries, etc. Amazon has some cool ‘how to make‘ Paper Kites books, too. I even found one that features butterflies, among other things from around the world . With March right around the corner, paper kites come to mind in more ways than one.
With all of those scrumptious flowers to munch on, I am thinking those three are going to be enjoying an extended lunch. This might be a good time to begin back in the neighborhood, allowing you to review our recent Adventures, so you don’t miss anything. Come along while I refresh my memory — and those three finish lunch.
You know when Madhu gets theurgetowander, she wanders into some fascinating places. Along the way, Madhu takes breathtaking photos, and in many cases (such as this), includes a wonderful, informative history of her subject matter. Today we are visiting the ruins of The Castle Kerak and learning of its thousand (plus) year history. I am always amazed at the number of people who have died fighting over power and land. At the moment, I am hoping Oscar doesn’t fall over the side and perish with some of the poor souls who fell victim to the King’s wrath somewhere along the way.
Olivia was smart enough to bring binoculars and she is willing to share. I suspect, once Oscar regains his nerve, the Orples will be spending more time admiring the scenery.
If you get tired of waiting for the Orples, come visit our neighborswith me to see what you may have missed in the recent past.
If you have missed us visiting your blog in the last day or two … no worries … we haven’t forgotten and/or overlooked you, we are just busy trying to set up shop in the hopes that anyone needing toys, books, toy storage, art supplies for children, dress up costumes, and so on will stop by and check out our selections once our shop opens. I have literally been spending every waking hour, not blogging, trying to put the pieces into place to bring you guys a sensible shop to find nice gifts for that special child on your gift list.
Olivia, Oscar, and I have weeded through thousands of items to offer you the basics in a variety of organized categories, saving you time when you shop. I’ll keep you posted as we progress with our efforts to (in the near future) present to you a, well thought out, toy and gift shop. For now, a work station for the creative child on your list may be a good place to begin … just ask the Orples.
